DR. GRETCHEN WHITE TRILOGY

Psychologist and criminologist Dr. Gretchen White is a specialist in antisocial personality disorders and violent crimes. She’s helped solve enough prominent cases for detective Patrick Shaughnessy that her own history is often overlooked: Gretchen is an admitted sociopath once suspected of killing her aunt.

“A Familiar Sight has everything I crave in a thriller: a shocking, addictive female lead, unexpected twists that snapped off the page, and an ending that made me gasp out loud. I never saw it coming, but it was perfectly in sync with the razor-sharp balance between creepy and compelling that Labuskes carries throughout the novel. This is a one-sitting read.

THE LIBRARIAN
OF BURNED BOOKS

Inspired by the true story of the Council of Books in Wartime—the WWII organization founded by booksellers, publishers, librarians, and authors to use books as “weapons in the war of ideas”—The Librarian of Burned Books is an unforgettable historical novel, a haunting love story, and a testament to the beauty, power, and goodness of the written word.

ABOUT BRI

Hi, thank you for stopping by my site! I’m Brianna–but call me Bri, everyone does–a thirty-something writer who loves reading, history, hiking, adventuring and breweries. I also love stories, and love telling them through multiple genres.

My very first book that I published with a small house was a Regency-era romance novel. After that, I got a plot-bunny of an idea for a psychological thriller and it would not let me go. That became IT ENDS WITH HER, my first stand-alone mystery with Thomas & Mercer. I fell in love with the genre–and the way it allowed me to explore the darkest depths of humanity and at the same time find the light within it. Many of my books brush on dark topics such as self-harm, child abuse and violent tendencies, so please be gentle with yourself while choosing what to read.

Meanwhile, as a huge history nerd, I’ve always loved the WW2 era, and have devoured so many stories about unbelievable courage, hard choices, fear and evil and goodness and everything in between. When I heard about a program that helped get paperback books to soldiers stationed all over the world, I couldn’t help but write about it. Once I dove into research, I uncovered a wealth of joyful queer history from the 1920s and 1930s that I couldn’t help but include. My debut historical fiction novel THE LIBRARIAN OF BURNED BOOKS will be coming out in 2023 with William Morrow, and you can find more information about it on my Historical Bookshelf page.

Thank you so much for reading or just stopping by. Head over to my “Connect with Bri” page to find me on social media. I love hearing from my readers!

A detective returns to her haunted past, with deadly consequences, in an icy novel of psychological suspense

Labuskes-Black_Rock_Bay-28101-PB-FTDetective Mia Hart never planned to return home. One terrifying summer night, Mia lost two of her closest friends to suicide. Scarred and broken, she fled St. Lucy’s, a small island off the coast of Maine.

Now fifteen years later, when the body of a journalist is fished out of the bay near St. Lucy’s cliffs, Mia is forced to help with the case—and face all she’s been running from. As she approaches the island, the wintery winds of Black Rock Bay usher Mia home again.

When Mia digs into the reporter’s death, they find he left behind a written clue: It wasn’t suicide. Mia soon discovers it’s her own tragic past he was referring to. Now, as she tries to untangle a web of lies, Mia realizes that solving this case means becoming the next pawn in someone’s blood-chilling game of truth or die.
